Hello

I'm Layne Richey (He/Him), a clinical practicum student under the supervision of Alma Henry, LISW. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Licensed Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) at Grandview University. My background includes experience in direct care and care coordination, working with individuals facing anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, PTSD, substance use disorders, and gender dysphoria, among other mental health challenges. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, supporting them through mental health concerns related to identity. Additionally, I’ve assisted individuals experiencing housing insecurity, helping them manage their health during these difficult times.

My compassion and ability to engage in challenging conversations have fueled my passion for pursuing a degree in counseling. My desire to counsel others comes from a deep love of helping people, especially in guiding them to recognize their strengths and reach their full potential. I believe therapy is most effective when the therapist and client collaborate as equals, working together toward identified therapeutic goals.

Areas of Interest

I have primarily focused on working with adults in care coordination, but I also have experience providing Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) to children aged five and up in community-based settings. My areas of specialization include:

· LGBTQIA+

· Trauma & Resilience

· Depression

· Anxiety

· Substance Use

· Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Approaches

My goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment where clients from all backgrounds feel comfortable. I prioritize a patient-centered approach, encouraging clients to openly share their challenges and concerns. Ensuring a positive experience and making a meaningful impact on my clients are always top priorities. I believe that building and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship is key to effectively addressing the mental health issues that bring individuals to seek treatment.

About Me

When I'm not in the office, I enjoy relaxing with my dog, Bentley, and my cat, Parmesan. I’m also into video games, sports, and a variety of "nerdy" hobbies. Since I love learning, I often watch documentaries and YouTube videos on a wide range of topics.
